Write out the names of your characters and explain
1) how you thought of their name
2) what made you create the character in the first place
3) how the character has changed over time (if they have changed)
4) any random fun fact about that character
Sidney Elizabeth Dalton
1) I've always liked the name Sidney for a girl. It's not a bizarre name, necessarily, but you're not going to see it too much. Plus, I wanted a name that could be shortened to an androgynous nickname, and "Sid" works perfectly. As for the rest, I tend to just go with names that flow. Elizabeth sounded like it fitted as a good middle name, and Dalton just seemed to go well.
2) Jesse was starting a World of Darkness campaign and wanted us to make characters for it. I thought "hey, all the other characters being played are between 18-25. I wanna make a 14 year old girl and see how that works in the mix of things."
3) Sid started off as a cute, though not necessarily stunning girl who was rather naive. Now, at 16 (she ages real time) she has grown into a gorgeous young lady who is still rather naive, but has discovered that she can get her way by flirting. Other than that, she hasn't had too much time to evolve. Oh, right. She's also having sexual relations with someone about fifteen times her age who looks like he's twice her age.
4) Her favorite drink in the world is Sprite. She loves it.
Shane Lyons
1) I was glancing through a list of Irish names (because his parents are both Irish immigrants,) saw "Shane," and thought it sounded like a good name. It sounded a bit sharp, and that seemed to work. Lyons, once again, just seemed to work as a last name.
2) Same WoD game as Sid, except I wanted a character who was opposite of her in most ways so I wouldn't be restricted to just one character and personality. Where Sid is a social-butterfly, Shane avoids most people. Sid is confident where Shane is insecure, etc.
3) When Shane was first created, he was a pretty hot dude. About 2 sessions into the game, I changed this. He just wasn't. He's gangly, awkward, shy, a total neat freak, wears sweater vests and button down shirts, has super thick glasses, doesn't like to be touched, and has albinism (not severe, but somewhat noticeable.)
4) Despite the fact that he has issues with physical contact and tends to be excruciatingly well-mannered, he watches a lot of porn.
Hamiyet Deniz Kaplan
1) Well, I searched Turkish names (as Deniz is indeed Turkish.) I saw "Deniz" and was just like "hmm, that sounds simple enough. Got that random 'z' in it to make it sound exotic, so we'll go with it." Kaplan also seemed relatively low on the "super bizarre name scale" so I went with it. Decided that her first name would be a little more out there, so I picked Hamiyet.
2) Collin was starting a zombie apocalypse role-playing game and just days earlier, I had mused how fun it would be to play a foreign contortionist. Enter Deniz!
3) Hasn't changed much. She's gone from slightly untrusting of people to VERY untrusting of people, and now has a phobia of the military with an affinity that borderlines on the mentally disturbed for her cat. But this was all in-game development.
4) Deniz was a huge horror movie buff before the zomb-pocalypse began. She often claims that her survival thus far has been mostly thanks to her movie knowledge.
Robin Llyod Faire
1) The name "Robin" had been stuck in my head for awhile for a character. Didn't know whether I'd want them to be a boy or a girl. When he slowly became a male character, I picked the name "Lloyd" for a middle name because it was almost silly and I wanted something he could be embarrassed by. "Faire" actually came from a line of thought starting from "Johnny Fairplay" from Survivor. Yeah. Silly, right? But rest assured, Robin is much more noble than Johnny was.
2) Collin encouraged us to make multiple characters for the zombie game because people get killed off quickly. Like with Sid and Shane, I wanted characters that contrasted. Deniz thinks things out and is slow to trust others. Robin is brash, acting before thinking, and tries to be friends with everybody.
3) He went from a reckless cowboy-type to slightly more level-headed. This is ONLY because he knocked up one of the other members of their group of survivors and is now helping to take care of the kids (yup. Twins.)
4) Robin has a slightly receding hairline that he is incredibly sensitive about. He makes it seem a lot worse than it really is.
Bermudo Gottlieb/ Wendel Bayer/ Dedrick Jaeger
1) Well, I looked up German names. Bermudo stuck out. I liked it. Gottlieb was the perfect surname because it translates into "God Love" and he's a monk. Wendel Bayer was his given name before he left the monastery...because Wendel just sounded adorable. Dedrick Jaeger is his temporary alias.
2) Yet another WoD campaign, Collin set one up during the 15th century. We had a charismatic leader, a tinker/rouge equivalent, and a big ol' barbaric fighter, so I decided to back the group up with an academic. He's a monk turned alchemist.
3) Whalp, he went from being human to being turned into a vampire. That was a big change. He's one of those angsty vampire types as well. Doesn't kill people. Hates what he is. The whole shebang. Granted, his is more based in the fact that he is deeply religious and believes that he is now a creature of Satan. Heck, if he weren't such a coward, he probably would have killed himself by now. Oh Bermudo. You're so silly.
4) If he lives long enough, he won't be celibate for much longer and may or may not slowly be developing an attraction toward the only girl in the party whom he's trying to protect from the other vampire in the party because he drinks people blood and the smell of said girl's virgin blood occasionally drives him into a blood frenzy. Granted, Bermudo's spent all 32 years of his life essentially being asexual, so he totally does not realize that said attraction may or may not be developing. OH DEAR!
